Travel Information

Full details of travelling to the University of Hertfordshire are available through the University website. The University owned bus service known as Uno, runs bus services across Hertfordshire and North London. This site provides links to the rail services, transport to and from the close-by airports of Heathrow, Luton, Stansted and Gatwick (the latter is the furthest away but transport links are very good). Note that taxi fares from airports, other than Luton -which is relatively nearby, are prohibitive, and if you are forced to take this route, you should agree a fare in advance of travel. In all cases you should be prepared to pay by cash, not credit-card. Taxi fares from Hatfield railway station to the de Havilland Campus are typically £5 (some taxi companies charge extra on Sunday mornings: an exception are Hilltop Taxis 01707 266666). On-campus car parking will be free. Travel to the University of Hertfordshire can be made via a variety of convenient public transport methods from the following destinations:

Hatfield Railway Station

The University of Hertfordshire's de Havilland campus is situated 2 miles/3.2kms away from Hatfield railway station. For a walking route, please click here . Alternatively, University buses leave regularly from bus stops directly outside Hatfield railway station. There is a digital timetable diplayed inside each of the bus stops with frequent updates of the services running, including destination information as to where each bus will call. Monday-Friday, the number 600 Uno shuttle bus transports commuters from Hatfield station to Hatfield Business park (a 5 minute walk to the de Havilland Campus). Kings Cross British Rail Station

Trains to Hatfield railway station leave approximately four times an hour from Kings Cross. Dependant on the train you board, the journey takes between 25-35 minutes. There is a less frequent Sunday service and it is always advisable to check with First Capital Connect for any scheduled engineering works that could potentially delay your journey. Please note that Hatfield is situated outside the London zones 1-6 and a relevant ticket/extension to Hatfield will need to be purchased at the Kings Cross ticket office prior to boarding the train.

Heathrow Airport

London Underground's northbound Piccadilly line runs straight from Heathrow Airport to London Kings Cross British Rail Station. Trains leave every few minutes and the journey takes approximately 45 minutes. See above for train information to Hatfield from London Kings Cross. Alternatively, the 724 Arriva bus service leaves from Heathrow Airport's Central Stand 4 and travels directly to Hatfield's 'Galleria' shopping centre, just a two minute walk away from the de Havilland Campus. Luton Airport

One of the easiest and most direct ways to get to Hatfield from Luton airport is via bus. The 737, National Express airport coach leaves from Luton Airport bus station, bay 10, and travels directly to the University of Hertfordshire's College Lane Campus. The de Havilland Campus is a relatively short walk from College Lane. With a suitcase, you should use the Uno bus services that can take you to de Havilland. Average journey time is just under an hour. Luton Airport Parkway Rail Station also offers regular First Capital Connect train services to St. Albans. There is a bus depot outside St. Albans train station where a variety of local and Uno bus services regularly travel to the de Havilland Campus in Hatfield. Stansted Airport

The 717 National Express Airport coach leaves from Stansted Airport's coach station to the University of Hertfordshire's College Lane Campus. The de Havilland Campus is a relatively short walk from College Lane. With a suitcase, you should use the Uno bus services that can take you to de Havilland. Average journey time is just over an hour.

Gatwick Airport

The most convenient way of getting to Kings Cross station from Gatwick Airport is to take a First Capital Connect train towards Bedford. Disembark the train at St Pancras International station where a short walk will take you through to Kings Cross British Rail station for a connecting train to Hatfield. A number of regular buses from Hatfield station are available to transport you to the de Havilland Campus (see above for details). Journey time will normally take around an hour and a half. Alternatively, you could stay on the First Capital Connect Bedford-bound train until reaching St. Albans station whereupon a number of buses depart regularly for Hatfield; Uno buses that you can take are the 601, 602 and the 655. Both the 300 and 724 (more direct) Arriva bus services are available from the St. Albans Interchange stop A to the de Havilland Campus.
