China award for outstanding PhD student at UH (Zenghua Zhang)

UH astrophysics PhD student Zenghua Zhang has won a prestigious award from the Chinese Government in recognition of his success as one of China's "Outstanding Students Abroad". Zenghua researches ultracool brown dwarfs and low-mass stars with Dr David Pinfield in UH's Centre for Astrophysics Research. The annual awards for Chinese PhD students have been made by the "China Scholarship Council" on behalf of the "Ministry of Education of China" since 2003. From amongst several hundred UK-based PhD students who applied for the award this year, just 34 were successful. And across the 29 countries in which Chinese PhD students were recognised, Zenghua was the only student to receive the award in the field of astrophysics. This is the first time this award has been won at UH, and Zenghua will attend an official award ceremony at the Chinese Embassy in London in May.
